Onella for VP

My Platform
These are very uncertain times and I understand that there are areas where students are being failed. That despite the supports currently in place, students need and deserve more help to succeed.

Learn more about the 3 pillars I vow to focus on if I get into office.

My Pillars
1
Ensuring Student Safety
With rising political tensions all across Canada, it is vital to ensure that all students, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, sexuality, gender, or any other identity, feel safe and respected on campus.

In light of the devastating stabbing on campus and the growing racism directed at international students, amongst other examples, it is crucial that this issue be addressed with urgency. The involvement and accountability of government officials at all levels is necessary to create meaningful change and ensure safety and inclusivity on campus and within our broader community.

As your prospective VP, I do not accept discrimination and will work until that truth is reflected in the student experience.

2
Comprehensive Student Financial Aid
Like many of you, OSAP has been the saving grace that allows me to pursue the degree I’m currently working towards.
However, as it stands, the process lacks a comprehensive set of criteria to ensure that financial aid is distributed equitably among students.

While OSAP benefits millions of students, issues such as the grants-to-loans ratio can place additional financial strain on students who are already struggling.

Student financial aid helps ease financial burdens even beyond paying off their tuition. So let's make sure that all students are getting the help they need.
3
Mental Health Supports
School is a beast! The University of Waterloo even more so, and I say that from experience. Being a University student is not easy, and in addition to all your other responsibilities, it's easy for your mental health to take a back seat. I know mine did for a while.

Which is why making sure that our mental health supports on campus get the proper funding they require is not a want but a need.

This pillar words in tandem with ensuring student safety as we don't only deserve to be physically safe, but mentally as well.
